GOOD JUDGEMENT TEACHES US NOT TO JUDGE
By James McQuitty 2009

Introduction
Spirit teachers advise us not to judge others, because we do not know the pathway that they have trod. But by all means judge the deed! If we did not, it would be tantamount to giving our approval to anarchy and chaos, and a failure on our part to show good judgement.
But is it really possible to live upon this earthplane without judging others? We seem to be constantly making judgements. Many people even make snap judgements, “I like or don’t like this or that person” purely on face value. For example, when they judge by appearances, by career, by diet, or perhaps by which football team someone supports.
At other times judgement is based upon the “vibes” that one might feel when they first encounter a particular person. The “vibes” are of course the vibrational energies of their own and someone else’s auric energies coming into contact. Some people are more sensitive than others, and will instantly feel comfortable and at ease in the presence of someone with whom their own energies are on a sympathetic harmonic frequency. Alternatively, they may feel uneasy or agitated in the presence of someone whose energies are less than compatible with their own.
Let’s look at a few issues. I’m sure we all deplore acts of terrorism and murder. Most people would agree that such criminals should, whenever possible, be brought to trial and put in prison so as to prevent their continued offences?
So at first glance it would certainly seem that we are judging them; just as surely as a juror would be required to judge guilty or not guilty. Can we upon Earth separate the person from the act?
But while from a spiritual viewpoint we do not judge the person, it is still appropriate and often very necessary, until they learn better, for us to segregate such individuals, to protect ourselves. From a spiritual perspective we should not incarcerate as a punishment, although to the individuals concerned it will feel as such.
Judgement of the act, as opposed to judging another is a vital ingredient in the progression of the spirit. We need good judgement to know what is acceptable and fair for ourselves, it comes from our inner being, our gut feeling, which is our higher spiritual mind working through our intuition. It uses the judgement of the spirit; which knows and understands the pathway that is right for our progression at any given time.
We could also call this inner guidance, or discernment. But I have used the example of judgement to highlight the difference between this and ‘to judge,’ as the two do at times confuse people, so much so that people begin to doubt their right to have an opinion on anything.
But opinions, preferably flexible ones, help to make the person. It is by personal judgement that we grow, albeit that we make mistakes as we go. We should not deny ourselves the right to have an opinion.
Give yourself permission to grow, take a few chances, and develop good judgement by remaining flexible, for absolute truth is not of this Earth. For past errors, do not judge yourself too severely, for always there is tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.... to infinity, to learn to master yourself, and this is the whole purpose of spirit evolution, self-mastery.

Spirit Judgement
It should be clearly understood that there is no ‘day of judgement’ as certain religions preach.
Such a day never has and never will exist. There are perhaps two reasons why it was (and in some cases still is) taught. Firstly, it was advanced as a means of mind and behaviour control, a theological threat used to usurp power. (Do as we say, or be sentenced to hell).
Secondly, it could in days of earlier spiritual understanding, have been conceived by misunderstanding. For although there is no judgement by a wrathful god or deity, or by any kind of spiritual hierarchy, nevertheless there is natural law and self-judgement.

Natural Law ‘Judgement’
After your transition (passing) natural law, in a sense, will judge you. This is most important to realise. For sometimes when people understand that there is no theological style ‘day of judgement,’ they wrongly conclude that when no person or judicial style system has authority over them, they will be less accountable for their actions. They do not realise that natural law is perfect and carries within perfect ‘judgement,’ a perfect harmonising or balancing system.
Natural law will determine the level to which you aspire following your passing. The spirit realms have many levels and sub-divisions, from the higher celestial down to the lower astral and further down the vibratory scale to the dark and thoroughly undesirable levels of existence, the shadow-lands, as they are sometimes called.
Those who choose to read material such as this, when their time comes, will most likely transcend to more pleasant levels, but we should all be aware of the existence of the lower, as well as the higher, levels. People who are loving, caring and sharing will naturally be drawn to higher levels of existence than those whose actions are cruel or of a seemingly evil nature.

Self-Judgement
Do not be fooled into thinking that self-judgement is an easily avoided ‘option,’ for it is not. You, to some degree, will judge yourself. On a subtle unconscious level your vibrations, reflected in your aura upon Earth and part of your spirit essence after passing, will reflect all that has gone before. While it will also reflect your conscience, your inner understanding of yourself, so if you have been kind and loving this will be shown in the vibrations, colour and radiance of your spirit body. Likewise, those who have been cruel or malicious will reflect accordingly, displayed by their own being.
Nobody can lie to themselves or hide their true self to anyone in spirit life; your true self will be visible to all. Let’s face it we all make mistakes! From the minor to the major, we let ourselves down. Whether we commit a more obvious crime, are rude, greedy, selfish, egotistical…. the list is endless, or we simply don’t tell the shop assistant when they give us too much change. There are a million and one things we can feel guilty about, even when still upon this earthplane. Imagine then, how guilt can confront one upon passing. When self-realisation dawns, and the true self is revealed in all its glory or despair.
If you have reason to feel pride and happiness, a sense of satisfaction at a lifetime well lived this will be visible. While those who feel guilt, shame, sorrow and remorse, will carry this. On Earth people can lie to others and to a degree to themselves, but not in spirit, all is revealed, the good, the bad and the ugly.

We Should Not Judge Others
As I said at the beginning, spirit teachers advise us not to judge others, because we do not know the pathway that they have trod. When they say this, they do not always mean in this lifetime alone! Previous incarnations may, and to an extent must, have lead to the current one.
But there are other, sometimes unconsidered reasons, why we should not judge others. A very good reason is because when we are upon this earthplane, we so often lack the broader or long-term vision to understand the grand scheme of life incarnate. In brief, we incarnate many times, through many different forms, to learn what are called ‘lessons’ that enable us to ‘climb the spirit ladder’ by increasing our understanding and spirit rate of vibration.
Along the way, by agreement, we help each other. We do so by interaction in various ways. The process of learning can come in many different forms. It can be through encouragement, kindness and love; while other lessons are learnt by example, and this can be through positive or negative actions.
A positive example would be to find encouragement and our own inner strength by witnessing another who has overcome some adversity in their life. While a negative example would be by witnessing or personally experiencing how not to live (cruelty, oppression etc. – the list is endless), so that we become more determined to be different or do the opposite.
We should therefore not judge the person who teaches by negative example, for although we may deplore their actions, the inner person, the true spirit, may simply be aiding one or more others to learn by the experience that they bring. In spirit life such a person will be praised for the lesson that they have helped to teach, rather than being held accountable in any way (unless they’ve gone beyond their remit, then karmic debt will be incurred).
There is so much to find out about the real “us” – the spirit. We are all far more courageous than we ever realise whilst upon the earthplane, because we so often volunteer for the experiences we encounter.
An old proverb says, ‘we should not judge a book by its cover.’ In the same way, we should never judge another, because we do not see the spirit within (or the motive behind their actions).
